What is Personal Information?
We classify your personal information as being:
Your real name
Your contact phone number
Your full physical / mailing address
Your email address
"Other information" you supply (eg business name, suburb and state) are
either voluntary answers, or are already public knowledge, or do not personally
identify you as an individual.
"Other information" is not covered by this privacy policy, because we make it
clear those details will be publicly available on our website, or the details
are already public knowledge, or we have made the answering of those questions
voluntary - so you don't need to supply the details if you don't want to.
Public access to your information
Most of the information you supply (eg typed into our employment forms) is
accessible to all our website visitors and to all www.backstagejobs.com.au staff, unless
clearly marked otherwise.
Our web-hosting company could have access to your personal information
which is "not for public viewing". In reality, they would have no interest
in your individual information.
They are also bound by the
National Privacy Principles and have strict obligations to comply with.
Securing your personal information
Personal details that are "not for public viewing" are obtained using a secure
128 bit SSL encrypting security certificate.
That is a fancy way of saying your personal details are encrypted in your browser
before being sent through the internet to our server.
This prevents other computers intercepting and decyphering your details between
your computer and our database.
We then use a secret key to unencrypt your details, check them for accuracy and
suitability for our systems, and store them in a password protected database.
Regular backups of the database are performed, and the resulting
information is compressed into a password protected archive and stored
in a secure location.
Checking and updating your personal information
If you believe your personal information (name, phone number, email or address)
is incorrect or have changed, you can ask for your record to be updated.
Only current records will be checked and updated. If a job you advertised has
already closed, your details have been archived and will not be checked or
corrected.
How we use non-identifying information
Aggregated information (stuff that does not personally identify
you) is used to create reports that
might become public.
These reports cannot identify you personally, and may include details about
the number of visitors we receive, the popularity of particular web pages
within www.backstagejobs.com.au or the number of times a particular job advertisement
has been viewed.
We may also use those reports for future website enhancements (eg the number of
visitors using a particular web browser might affect the type of technologies
and services we provide).
It can also be used to determine which industry type is the most popular - eg
employment listings for bar work, hotel reception, lighting designers or stage
producers.
If you think you (personally) have been identified through one of these
reports, please contact us
directly.
Law enforcement
If we believe you are performing illegal activities against our service
(eg "spoofing" emails from our domain, harvesting email addresses for
the purpose of sending unsolicited emails, attempting to gain unauthorised
access to our information, defacing our site, causing a denial of service attack,
intentionally sending virus or worms to our email addresses etc) we will report
your activities to the relevant authority.
We may also supply network logs which contain details of the attempt to
breach our network.
It is possible the information we supply could personally identify the attacker.
Data retention
Once your information is taken out of our live database (eg your job expires,
or you unsubscribe from the weekly jobs email bulletin), it may remain on
password protected read-only backups for 2 years. Information in our backups is
read-only and cannot be deleted or changed.
After 2 years, the password protected archive is securely destroyed.
